Connecting a battery via CAN bus

Overview

A CAN bus connection can be used to monitor a battery or to "listen in" on CAN communication between battery and inverter.

USB cable

The USB CAN bus adapters below are supported. No other adapter is supported at this time.

Result

When multiple batteries are connected in parallel they will display as one large battery. Per pack metrics via CAN bus might be available in future.

In general you will receive more data via RS232/RS485 compared to CAN. You will also find CAN usb adapter to be more expensive than RS232/RS485 adapters. The advantage of CAN bus is that there is broad compatibility and standardization across equipment manufacturers and that SolarAssistant can "listen in" on an existing connection between inverter and battery.
